Zimbabwe cotton production is expected to increase

by:Chengyi     2021-03-15
According to the forecast of Zimbabwean industry institutions, the cotton production in Zimbabwe in 2017/18 is expected to increase significantly from this year's 30,000 tons. Cottco, the country's only authorized cotton purchaser, has arranged $44 million in funds for cotton purchases. It is reported that the Zimbabwe government proposed a plan to revitalize cotton. In 2016/17, it provided cotton farmers with 36 million U.S. dollars in production investment and took over Cottco, making it a cotton purchase enterprise directly controlled by the government. In 2017/18, Cottco will purchase new cotton at a price of 40 cents/kg, and then adjust the price according to the results of the classification inspection. Grade A cotton is 15 cents/kg, Grade B cotton is 10 cents/kg, and Grade C cotton is 10 cents/kg. At 5 cents/kg, the price of D grade cotton has not been adjusted. In this way, the cotton farmers’ estimated cotton sales price is 40-55 cents/kg. Article Keywords: Cotton Pakistan
