Pakistan resumes cotton import tariffs, new cotton picking has begun

by:Chengyi     2021-03-15
According to the latest forecast of the U.S. Agricultural Counselor, Pakistan’s cotton production in 2017/18 will reach 9 million bales (1.96 million tons), slightly lower than the previous forecast of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This is mainly due to the decrease in the area planted in Pakistan this year without an increase in yield. It is understood that the monsoon rainfall in Pakistan from July to August was significantly lower than the average level, and the cotton crops depend to a large extent on groundwater irrigation. The resistance of Pakistani cotton to pink cotton bollworm is weak, but it has not caused much impact for the time being. At present, cotton picking in Pakistan has begun. If the late September rains occur, it may affect cotton production and quality. According to the latest news, the Pakistani government has restored cotton import tariffs and sales taxes, and the cost of cotton imports has increased by about 9%. The implementation of this policy is in the cotton picking period, which will help cotton harvest and reduce cotton imports at the same time. According to Pakistan's preliminary forecast, Pakistan's cotton imports in 2016/17 may be less than 2.2 million bales (480,000 tons). Article Keywords: Indian Cotton
