Why did cotton yarn imports remain high in March?

by:Chengyi     2021-03-15
According to customs statistics, my country imported 190,000 tons of cotton yarn in March 2020, the same year-on-year; my country imported 470,000 tons of cotton yarn in the first quarter of 2020, which was only 6 million tons in the same period in 2019, down 1.26% year-on-year; 2019/20 (2019.9-2020.3) A total of 1.1 million tons of cotton yarn was imported, a decrease of 110,000 tons compared with the same period in 2018/19, a year-on-year decrease of 9.09%. From the data alone, the impact of the new crown epidemic on the cotton yarn imports of Chinese traders and weaving companies from January to March 2020 is not large or even negligible. In the first quarter, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, etc. were still the main sources of cotton yarn imports. However, it is worth noting that since February, India and Pakistan have successively implemented 'closing the country and provincesThe port's shipping department is in a 'half-shutdown' state (Punjab, Pakistan, and Sindh, 'cities closed'). Therefore, the proportion of Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Thai yarns in imported cotton yarns in March has increased. According to statistics, Vietnam exported 152,500 tons of yarn in March, an increase of 4.5% month-on-month and 5.7% year-on-year. The main increase came from China. In the Spring Festival, the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, and other factors, traders, weaving and clothing companies have largely delayed the resumption of work and production, and export orders continued to be cancelled or postponed in February and March. Why did the import volume of cotton yarn still maintain a high level in March? The analysis in the industry mainly includes the following factors: First, considering the relatively long production cycle of cotton yarn, most of India, Pakistan and other yarn mills need to place orders 2-3 months in advance (Vietnamese yarn mills generally 1-2 months in advance), so March The signing period for the arrival and import of cotton yarn is concentrated in December-January. At that time, traders, weaving, clothing, and foreign trade companies are looking forward to the cotton and cotton textile market in the first half of 2020 (the first phase of the Sino-US trade agreement 'landed' ), they are all ready to 'roll up their sleeves and work harder' because the enthusiasm for cotton yarn signing is relatively high; Secondly, from the time point of view, India has 'closed the country' since March 25. Only two provinces in Pakistan have suffered severe epidemics. Cotton yarn production and sales Shipment has not been affected too much, so it has little impact on the arrival, delivery, and contract execution of India and Pakistan yarn in March; the real impact will be April-June; in addition, due to obstacles to exports to Japan, South Korea and European countries, Vietnamese yarn mills increase their quotations and exports to Chinese buyers. As Asian countries began to blockade one after another in March, and the epidemic broke out in Europe and the United States, the decline in cotton yarn import data will lag behind, and it is estimated that the import data will be unreadable in the next few months.
