US Cotton Export Weekly: A large number of Asian buyers breached their contracts

According to a report from the US Department of Agriculture, from July 21-27, 2017, the net contracted volume of U.S. cotton exports for 2016/17 was -12,600 tons, the lowest of the year. The new signings are mainly from Taiwan (680 tons), India (385 tons), Turkey (295 tons) and El Salvador (22 tons). The countries that cancelled the contract were South Korea (4581 tons), Vietnam (3220 tons), Pakistan (2608 tons) and Indonesia (1383 tons).   The 2017/18 net contracted amount of upland cotton in the United States was 28,700 tons, a decrease of 45.5% from the previous week. The buyers were South Korea (5,080 tons), Mexico (4717 tons), Vietnam (4,263 tons) and Bangladesh (3356 tons). India canceled 2,086 tons.   The southeastern United States has sunny to cloudy weather, with rain in some areas and sufficient soil moisture. The new cotton is growing well. The shipment of upland cotton in 2016/17 was 62,400 tons, a decrease of 16% from the previous week and the same as the average of the previous four weeks. Mainly shipped to Turkey (16,700 tons), Vietnam (9730 tons), Indonesia (6532 tons), China (5216 tons) and Mexico (5216 tons). In 2016/17, the contracted volume of net export of Pima cotton was 158 tons, and the buyer was Egypt.   The contracted volume of net export of Pima cotton from the United States in 2017/18 was 2,857 tons, and the main buyers were India (1,088 tons), Pakistan (998 tons) and Indonesia (453 tons). The shipment volume of Pima cotton in 2016/17 was 2,086 tons, an increase of 16% from the previous week and an increase of 67% from the average of the previous four weeks, mainly to China (794 tons), India (317 tons), Japan (227 tons) and Egypt (204 tons).
