It is reported that the Indonesian textile industry has formally agreed to optimize the local procurement of sustainably produced rayon to promote the growth of the country's textile industry. The textile industry is the core pillar of the Indonesian economy. Recently, representatives from the Indonesian government, textile and fashion industries, and industry associations signed a memorandum of understanding on rayon. Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono, Head of Chemical, Textile and Miscellaneous Industries, Ministry of Industry of India, said that the Indonesian government is committed to developing the textile industry by promoting local products and attracting investors. The use of rayon made in Indonesia can play an important role in promoting textile exports and reducing high dependence on imports, enabling Indonesia to catch up with the fourth industrial revolution. Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono said: “We hope to promote the use of locally produced textiles, such as rayon and polyester fibers, to reduce our dependence on imported products.” In the past three years, Indonesia’s textile exports have continued to grow, with exports from 118.7 in 2016. Billion U.S. dollars increased to 12.59 billion U.S. dollars in 2017 and 13.27 billion U.S. dollars in 2018. Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono said: 'Most of the export products are clothing, accounting for 63.1%. This year's export value is expected to reach 15 billion U.S. dollars. If we do not increase national production, this goal will be difficult to achieve.' Increase the use of sticky in the manufacturing industry. Gum rayon or rayon is expected to increase the output of the textile industry because it can be used as a substitute for polyester and cotton. Locally produced polyester and cotton still cannot meet the needs of Indonesia's national textile and garment industry. Relevant sources said that the production of polyester fiber in Indonesia is not developed enough, and the import of cotton fabrics is still close to 100%. Alternative Materials The Ministry of Industry of Indonesia cooperated with Bank Indonesia to encourage banks to support local textile manufacturers. The rayon produced in large quantities in Indonesia is expected to help the Indonesian textile industry play a greater role in the global market. Basrie Kamba, President of the Asia Pacific Rayon Association, said: “Rayon can be an alternative material. Rayon is a more competitively priced and widely available environmentally friendly fabric.” Production started in December last year and has now produced 120,000 tons. Rayon fiber. Nearly half of the products are sold in the local market, and the rest are sold in 14 countries, including Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Germany and Italy. If local Indonesian companies can effectively use domestic rayon, this textile will become a symbol of the Indonesian garment industry and expand the global market share of the Indonesian textile industry. Ade Sudrajat, chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), said that in order to achieve this goal, all participants from upstream to downstream should be committed to the development of sustainable production of rayon. Indonesia’s national textile industry is facing a huge trade deficit, exporting 500,000 tons of clothing and importing 900,000 tons. Therefore, relevant people are urging the Indonesian government to formulate policies and strategies to protect the industry. The solution includes increasing the use of local materials and reducing imports. Indonesia’s textile industry experienced its heyday in the 1980s, when it surpassed Vietnam and other neighboring countries with good performance and healthy growth.
