India's cotton yarn exports in April are expected to decrease by 80-90% year-on-year

In the past week, Indian cotton yarn prices continued to fall, and cotton prices continued to weaken. Apparel exports in April decreased by 91% year-on-year, and yarn exports are expected to decline by 80-90%. During the week, Indian cotton yarn prices fell, other yarns stabilized, and all quotations began to stabilize. It is understood that India's cotton yarn production dropped sharply in March and April. India’s CAI recently lowered its March cotton consumption by 50,000 bales (170 kg/bag), April’s consumption by 200,000 bales, and May’s consumption by another 130,000 bales. Up to now, the operating rate of Indian yarn mills has gradually recovered. This fiscal year (April 2020-March 2021) cotton consumption is expected to eventually decrease by 510,000 bales, a decrease of 15%. According to investigations by Indian industry organizations, Indian cotton yarn exports in April are expected to decrease by 80-90% year-on-year, and actual exports this fiscal year are expected to decrease by 35-40%. Statistics from the Indian Garment Export Association show that in April, the value of Indian garment exports in US dollars fell by 91% year-on-year.
